Finally went to smokey's with John and Dwayne. Always wanted to find smoked meats in Singapore. Cup of chilli [$6] enough for 3 of us and we had this with their complimentary LAYS chips. 4 pulled pork sliders, essentially 8 open faced sliders [$12] I would prefer normal slider buns as opposed to their ciabatta. But it was good. Combo of half rack smoked ribs and smoked beef brisket [$41] The beef brisket is better than Ribeye or Sirloin.
However, service was bad. Quite bad, not sure if it's the worse I have experienced.. But yeah gave me the bill without a pen, could've just walked off since I got my card back.. HAHA! They are not short staffed at all, I just don't know what they are doing.. So overall, I'll still go back for the sake of the food. Have been wanting to eat at Table Manners but the food was so so.. Spicy Wings and Truffle Fries Spicy Wings Truffle Fries. More than half the price wasn't truffled or rather they didn't toss with enough truffle oil.. No way will people come back for the truffle fries because it just taste of normal fries.. Had to ask for sauces to go with my fries. Half rack of ribs. The ribs was so so, there's a place that has cheaper full rack of ribs.
SJCC Dinner - Food was good, company was great, chefs were entertaining. Great time. Caramelized onions, ham, cheese. Braised US Prime Beef Short Ribs. Prawns in master stock. Ekro dutch milk fed osso buco. Whipped potato gratin. There were carvings of tajima beef and live station of pan seared scallops. RoadhousePulled Pork Sliders ($13) Best I have ever tasted and the best dish of the whole meal. B.Y.O.B Wagyu Beef, Streaky Bacon, Caramalized onions, Housemade BBQ sauce, Red Cheddar, Big ass onion rings. A la carte on a Saturday, shall return on weekdays for the lunch combo and the freaking delicious sliders. ($24) Deep Fried Cheesecake, it is nice, but I won't order it again. ($12) Platypus Angry Chicken Ragu Pappardelle ($15.50) Not that fantastic. Truffle Fries ($6.90) It was quite good, but the sliced frozed china truffles didnt help. Sorry just saying, but it is worth it.
Visited the 3 day old permanent stall of the much raved about mian by Travelling C.O.W These ramen cheese balls were so so. The salsa was good, but doesn't come together. Once again, I don't like the ramen, its tasteless. But the bulgogi beef was good. Rather they used normal slider buns or whatever buns. However, the lady told me the buns soaked up the stuff too quickly. But my opinion is that if you toast the buns well with butter, nice and crisp outside, and there's lettuce and tomato, the juices won't reach the buns that quickly if you serve them immediately. Seafood Laksa was also so so. It's too far from the original flavour of Laksa. Almost the same as the one I tried at marco marco. However, I found out about a hidden gem. Will visit again. Immanuel's French Kitchen. Well equipped in a jam packed stall, young chef. They have sous vide machines, whipping siphons, combi ovens, and it's a 2 man show. I kinda respect people who can operate in such small space. I can't, I can maximize space, but I need a decent amount of space.
Dinner at Tembeling Road yesterday. It was damn good. This is the second time I have tried but the first time I have visited this place physically. Ordered the 2 must tries, braised duck and pork. Highly recommended, but the place is not very accessible. I took a bus from Eunos Station at walked in about 500m. Would definitely make this a common place for dinner as long as I have time.
P.S even though its called Teochew Porridge, I had rice. Disappeared for quite sometime, made a terrible mistake, worked at a terrible restaurant, had a bad time, might end up working without being paid. But forget about those unhappy stuff, if I can't take it, the restaurant won't last long. Went to window shop for knives, and headed to Ding Dong for lunch. Went for the ala carte. Pork Bao with hoisin sauce. Paid F***ing $16 - $8 each. 5 spiced lamb $16 King Fish Sashimi Beef Cheek Rendang Red Curry Beef Short Rib with Mango Slaw $25 Lemon Brioche with Pink Guava ice cream Small portions, does not taste good, way too pricey, menu reads and sounds impressive but food does not reflect.
I SUGGEST YOU DON"T GO. Truffle Fries ($15) The most expensive truffle fries I ever ordered. However, what disappointed me was the menu said it came with BBQ sauce. The kitchen ran out of BBQ sauce and they replace it with ketchup. Like seriously? Is that the best u can do for a $15 fries which does not have a lot of truffle oil nor any shavings or grated truffle? Ketchup is just.... What I was angry with was, I watched the server walked to the pass of the kitchen with my fries and the chef told her they ran out of BBQ sauce. Well, fine. From what I can see from far, she asked what should she tell the customer or something, he turned around again and said something like just tell them we don't have la. I worked in the kitchen, I have seen and known unreasonable customers. But this is just bad attitude. Frozen Chocolate ($12) Not really worth it but yeah. Garlic Herb Pesto Pasta with Prawns ($25) Well I have no complains about this that's all I can say. Mamamia - simply put, bolognese ($25). No complains about this either. Nothing outstanding. Sometimes even famous food blogger comments are not trustworthy. So I am just being honest here. Or maybe they are just being inconsistent. I don't see myself coming back even though the service staff were very pleasant. Maybe, maybe i might, but I don't think so.
Located in the corner of Dempsey is House, a casual dining restaurant. Curry & Pumpkin fries ($9), they promote their fries a lot so i tried one of it. It's rather interesting. They have truffle taro fries and 2 others. However it is not very appetizing and it doesn't come with a sauce unless upon request. I would love to go with BBQ sauce but they go not have it. They serve it in an ice scoop.. I ordered the hanger steak with croquettes and wild mushrooms ($36). The croquettes were good. However, as u do not see any mushroom. The 2 white sticks are supposed to be mushrooms and u cannot even identify what kind of mushroom it is putting the portion of it aside.. They could have marinated the steak better and it was under because i ordered medium rare and it came a little too rare so it was a little chewy. Is it worth a return? NO.
Wanted to try truffle gourmet to see how good it was. Menu was priced quite reasonably so I forgot it's fine dining and I wore slippers. No description for how embarrassed I was but they were kind enough. Service was pretty good and surprisingly, canapes were on the house that day! Out of the 3, I only like the prawn one. But damn it was the nicest canape I ever had. I couldn't figure out what made it so good though. Anyway, let the meal begin! Simple Parmegiano Risotto [$28] Truffle Alla Carbonara [$28] My friend said it was very good, and the taste of truffle was encompassing. I think it would probably be the egg used to finish and coat the carbonara that picked up the flavor of truffle so well. Sorry for the poor picture because the restaurant's lighting was very dim. This here is the best pasta I've had. Pork Cheek Ragu [$24] Portion was small, but it was very nice.
I am going back for a proper dinner but in proper wear this time round. LOL. Cheers~ |
