Casa Verde translates to Green House in Spanish or Italian. Well, the name of this restaurant has its meaning because it's located in Singapore's Botanic Gardens on the left of the visitor's centre. It is an all day dining restaurant. Casa Verde is also one of the only pet friendly restaurants in Singapore. What's more? The experience of Alfresco dining with so much fresh oxygen provided by the thousands of greens in the garden! Casa Verde serves breakfast, Italian food, local food and at night, it turns into a restaurant serving European Cuisine with Risottos, Steaks, Raviolis and so on.. I have been dining at Casa Verde almost on alternate days during my last few weeks at Au Jardin. Both restaurants are under the same group, Les Amis and are only 1 minute walk apart.
In the day.
Looks good at night huh?
You have to take your order at the counter, but they will serve your food to you. & there's absolutely no service charge. On top of that GST is inclusive. Unlike dining in finer establishments where the 17% is on top of your bill, you can enjoy delicious food here too!
The spaghetti bolognese [$16] is darn good. Better than the one I had for $22 [supposed to be a larger portion than the normal one] at a celebrity's restaurant who boasts of making their pastas in house. Compare this with that? This would win hands down. It went down my throat in less than 5 minutes. My chef agrees that their bolognese is good too. So what if pastas are not fresh made? Dried pastas are everywhere in Italy, so do not have a misconception that fresh pasta is better, it is simply just fresher. Above everything else I am enjoying employee prices at the moment so I am enjoying it as much as possible! If I could cook a bolognese this good, I would be very happy.
This Hawaiian Beef Burger [$17.50] was damn good too. It has ingredients you find on a Hawaiian pizza like pineapples and ham with a homemade sauce or whatever sauce it is as long as it tasted damn good. When my colleague ordered for it to be well done I was shocked. But this is the best well done I have tasted! If I am at Botanic Gardens and I just want to have a fulfilling lunch with food up to standard and not disappointing my palate, while enjoying a meal with my pet [even though I don't have one now] Casa Verde is the very best place.
Roast Beef on Ciabata [$13.50] In my honest opinion it's not as good as the Hawaiian Beef Burger, but I wasn't disappointed or whatsoever. A decent sandwich just nothing extraordinarily delicious.
Carbonara [$15] You might not realize but this was double the portion of the bolognese I had. I rather they double the portion of the bolognese than this. Carbonaras are very heavy if you use cream instead of cooking the Italian way, so it is easy to get very sick of it. I mean nothing bad with more, but sometimes less is good. I think different people cooking, no portion control. The lady beside me had a bolognese with this kinda portion too. I think I would return for the bolognese itself. You can try this, there's nothing bad about it, just too much for me.
Finally got to try the Pizzas! Pizza Margherita - Tomato Salsa and Mozzarella [$21] I think that this was the best of the 3. This time it was my colleagues treat. Haha, reason why this is my favourite: it's simple, the way Italians cook, I like the crust it's thin, fresh and the dough of the crust has a hint of sweetness. I can finish an 11 inch of Pizza Magherita myself. The classic Margherita Pizza would have tomato, mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil.
Pizza Diavola - Tomato Salsa, Mozarella and Salami [$23]. Well, I am a meat lover so having salami onto the margherita and calling it Diavola wouldn't make a difference! When I wanted one more piece of this, the plank was empty..
Pizza Alla Braceria (Blanco/Rosso) - Mozzarella, marinated minced beef, porcini mushrooms and parmesan [$24]. This is the most expensive on the menu besides Sfilatino Casa Verde. However this is my least favorite... Not sure why, but maybe the beef and rosemary is too overpowering.. My favorite would still be a good Hawaiian Pizza! I am looking forward to dining at Mozza and I will post on that asap when school reopens. 1 more week left, I'll definitely come for the bolognese before my last day at Au Jardin.
Last return visit for the bolognese before school starts. This time the meat was more than the pasta HAHA. Tmr will be the last 3rd day. My battery flat already. By Sunday will be 0%... And school starts on Monday. Hahahaha, haish~
