Yesterday was the last day of my 1 and a half month stint at Au Jardin. Cuts and burns, shag mornings, tired nights but the things I have learned and experience I gained is invaluable (at least to me). Yesterday was the last time I climbed this freaking steep slope on the way to work. P.S. doesn't look that steep from the top.
Yesterday was also the last time I walked pass this sign.
Can't describe how much I have learnt. Have to thank my CDC Chef Wei Han first of all for taking me in. He was the one who thought me the most, explained everything to me and the most patient with me. I would say everyone can be a chef, but not everyone is good at teaching, passing on knowledge and being a mentor. It's like learning under a French chef without the temperament of a French chef (just joking, I'm stereotyping) Not all French chefs are like how you imagine them to be or how people describe them generally.
I will not deny this is the most demanding holiday job I had since I was 14. I have worked numerous long hour jobs be it fast food restaurants or night jobs standing for as long as you are sleeping. But THIS, I had to remember everything that they taught me, perform better everyday in order for them to teach me more. Honestly, I do not believe any chef out there would take me in so easily, teach me so much in less than 40 days (after excluding my 2 off days and all the Mondays). The best I can do for my chef is work harder, have a good career and credit part of it to this amazing chef that taught me invaluable lessons at the most important part of my learning journey. He may not be seeing this, but I wrote him a letter anyway.
A great exposure, the best for me so far. The lack of sleep and the duration of my whole holiday was worth it I must say. Cheers to all the chefs, I'll be back to visit next month!
