Dexters are the smallest breed and about half the size of Herefords and were considered a rare breed until recently. Dexters originated from Ireland and is said to be native to the UK because Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. It's this small..
F word also featured Dexter cows.
Cows are classified as single purpose, dual purpose or triple purpose breeds. Single meaning either for milking or meat. Dual meaning for both milk and meat. Triple refers to cows being an oxen too. An ox (plural oxen), also known as a bullock in Australia, New Zealand and India, is a bovine trained as a draft animal. Oxen are commonly castrated adult male cattle; castration makes the animals easier to control. Cows (adult females) orbulls (intact males) may also be used in some areas.
Beef animals in the U.S. are expected to mature in 18 months and result in small cuts of high quality lean meat, graded US Choice, with little waste. The expectable average dress out is 50 to 70 percent. The beef produced by Dexters is well marbled and tends to be darker.
Dexters produce a rich milk, relatively high in butterfat (4%) and the quality of the milk overall is similar to that of the Jersey. Some claim the milk is more naturally homogenised than other milk due to the smaller fat globules. Dexters can reasonably be expected to produce 2 to 2.5 gallons (7.6 to 9.5 liters) per day.
[Dress meaning the weight of the valuable meat and parts after removing the bones and unwanted internal organs. If a Dexter weighs 270kg-450kg depending on male or female, the dress weight would be 135kg- 225kg.]

"The government has no interest in where our food comes from or how it tastes, so it’s nice to set your own welfare and quality standards,” said poet and songwriter Pam Ayres, who has a small herd of Dexters on her 20-acre (81,000 m2) Cotswolds property.
"If you’ve got a bit of land, a breed like the Dexter can work out a lot cheaper than the supermarket, plus they do a pretty good job of mowing the lawn."

If a farmer farms a Dexter, there is a 90% chance he or she cares about the quality of meat and the welfare of the animals, because if we do the maths even if Dexter's meat are more expensive, comparing the dress weight, the profit is still lesser than farming other cows. Especially when the factories are farming cows as if they are chickens.. If I were to live in the US/UK/FRA, I would get all my supplies from farmers rather than the factory suppliers. Farmers care about their products and they tell you what's in season so you get the best produce of the season. The idea of farmer's market is also my favorite. The farmer's literally harvest a small amount of crops like vegetables and fruits and travel to sell it. A few hours later it's in your hands. Rather than having to ship and fly from other countries like all that Singapore gets and the produce only ends up with you after a few says. The only way to keep the vegetables looking in shape is.. I don't know LOL. Don't wanna make any false accusations because I am speaking from an ignorant point of view, these are just my opinions and my unrealistic way of thinking. But, if you experiment yourself by putting a farmer's produce and a same factory produce outside, you'll see that factory produced lasts longer. Well, nowadays such things are necessary or else countries like Singapore wouldn't be able to survive if the produce can't last longer.
FACTS
They are efficient food converters, the ratio of their milk and beef production to food consumed is very impressive. Their milk yield is bound to be appreciable lower than that of cows of larger breeds, but when compared it is only fair to remember that food intake is less, and because of their small size two can be kept in place of one larger animal.
Dexters are noted for their longevity and should breed regularly for 14 years or more. Calving problems are rare, with calves being quick on their feet, full of character and with a lively inquisitive temperament.
Alright hope you readers know a little more about Dexters, it's 1 in the morning already. Time to sleep again. Got to wake when the sun rises.
